Cost of services

Please note that the prices listed below are designed to give you a sense of what your project might cost. However, each project is individual and must be estimated accordingly.

If you are interested in any of these services, please contact me, and I will develop an estimate for your individual project.

Journalism/Creative Writing

All journalism and creative writing rates are negotiated on a project basis. Charges for other work are based on the deadline and size of the project.

Editing

(Includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, manuscripts, letters and business documents, teaching materials, newsletters, websites, etc.)

All rates apply to the page, meaning a double-spaced page no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches. The font must be 11 point serif font or larger. Fees for smaller fonts, single-spaced documents and larger pages will be assessed accordingly. Project-based fees may be negotiated for fiction and poetry manuscripts.

In most cases, a per page charge will be assessed for editing; however, in some cases (particularly for rush jobs), an hourly rate will be charged.

Other fees and rates

Expenses: Additional expenses, including packaging, postage, long distance charges, and cost of copying will be documented and billed to the client.

Meetings: The first hour a meeting with a new client is typically free. All other time spent in meetings thereafter will be billed at a rate of $35 an hour. The minimum charge is 15 minutes or $8.75. Travel fees will be charged for meetings held in a location 20 miles beyond Madison city limits.

E-mail correspondence: E-mail is an efficient and excellent way to communicate, and all reasonable e-mails will be handled for free. A fee will be assessed for excessive e-mail correspondence or e-mail in lieu of a face-to-face meeting.

Rush rates: Rush jobs can be negotiated, however I will charge more for them. I determine my rush rates on Central Standard Zone time. Please note that at no time will I work after hours unless given prior authorization by a client to do so.
